Eliud Kipchoge was born on November 5, 1984, in Kapsisiywa, a small village in Nandi County, Kenya. Raised by a single mother, Kipchoge was the youngest of four children.

At the age of 16, Kipchoge met his mentor and future coach, Patrick Sang, a former Olympic medalist in the steeplechase.

Sang recognized Kipchoge’s raw talent and potential in long-distance running and began coaching him in 2001

Career and Breakthrough

Over the next few years, Kipchoge continued to compete in track events, winning medals at various international competitions, including a bronze at the 2004 Athens Olympics

In 2012, Kipchoge made his marathon debut in Hamburg, Germany, finishing in a remarkable 2:05:30—a time that was the fastest ever recorded for a marathon debut.

Transition to Marathon Running

Kipchoge’s marathon career took off from there. In 2013, he won the Berlin Marathon, defeating Wilson Kipsang, who had set a world record just a year earlier.

Kipchoge’s mastery of the marathon distance is unparalleled. His ability to maintain a consistent pace, coupled with his remarkable endurance and mental fortitude, has made him virtually unbeatable over the 42

One of Kipchoge’s most significant achievements came in 2018 when he broke the world record at the Berlin Marathon, finishing in 2:01:39

Despite his numerous achievements, Kipchoge is perhaps best known for his audacious attempt to break the two-hour barrier in the marathon—a feat long considered impossible

Conclusion

From his humble beginnings in rural Kenya to becoming the greatest marathon runner of all time, Kipchoge has shown the world that with determination, discipline, and a strong belief in oneself, anything is possible
